Carnival Summit - Loule, Algarve

Carnival Summit - Loule, Algarve

In 2018 the Algarve has been blessed with another sunny February. So why not make the most of it? The Loulé council certainly are. Once again the cultured city of Loulé will be hosting the 3 day long Carnival parades.
From the 11th to the 13th February the city of Loulé will transform into the colourful capital of Carnival, bringing people from all corners of the Algarve. Although, many other Portuguese towns and villages also host their own events, the Loulé parade is amongst the biggest parades in the country.

Carnival, or Mardi Gras as it is know to some people, is a western Christian festive season that occurs before the start of Lent, traditionally it involves a public celebration or parade combining some of the elements from circus', masks, and a public street party. People wear masks and costumes during many such celebrations, allowing them to lose their everyday selves and experience a heightened sense of social unity.

Every year the Carnival adopts a new theme for the parade, and this years theme has gathered lots of interest, as in 2018 the main theme will be "Web Summit". So now the question is.. what is Web Summit?

Web Summit started as a simple idea in 2010 "Let’s connect the technology community with all industries, both old and new", expanding to become the largest technology conference in the world.

The Loulé council are expecting thousands of people to attend the 3 day event, which can make parking a bit of a tricky issue. However, public transport will be functioning as normal over this period. So why not leave the car at home, get a ride to Loulé, have a beer and enjoy the festivities.
