Destinations Recognised As Most Affordable For UK Travellers

A new report has highlighted Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus as some of the most affordable European holiday destinations for British travellers.
Bulgaria
The pound goes furthest in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria according to Post Office Travel Money, which analysed prices across 18 of the most popular European destinations. The analysis was based on the cost of a basket of tourist staples including meals, drinks, sunscreen and insect repellent. Costs in Bulgaria were less than half price compared to two thirds of the locations surveyed, with a basket costing just £43.

Turkey
With the Turkish Lira down 25% year-on-year compared with sterling, Mediterranean resort town Marmaris swooped into second place, with a basket of tourist staples costing £57.

Portugal
The Algarve in Portugal took third place (£68), followed by the Costa del Sol in Spain (£72) and Crete, Greece in fifth position (£81).

Spain
The Costa Blanca came in sixth while Paphos, Cyprus slipped into seventh place. Cities in Greece, Croatia and Malta made up the rest of the top ten.

Italy
Sorrento in Italy was highlighted as the most expensive beach destination, with evening meals alone setting visitors back around £64 on average.

The strengthening pound further boosts affordability. With the pound finally gaining value against the euro, Europe is more accessible to foreign buyers than it has been in almost a year. The pound to euro exchange rate recorded a ten month high of 1.1589 on 15 April 2018, with analysts forecasting further advances over the coming weeks. With favourable market conditions this is an excellent time to research your holiday home, retirment or rental investment.
