Portugal Wins World's Best Golf Destination - Again!
Portugal takes “Best Golf Destination” for the 5th year running! The announcement was made at the 2018 World Golf Awards held on Sunday at La Manga in Spain.
Tough competition with Scotland or Ireland, but with great courses, and of course the great Algarve climate and lifestyle it's not hard to see why Portugal has had so many continuous wins.
It was also in 1920 when the first golf course was built in the Algarve, soon after the Sir Henry Championship course which is now considered an ancient golf course, but a history that gives championship golf in the Algarve and Portugal near 100 years! So maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise the Algarve has become an increasingly popular destination for the sport. The Algarve now has more than 40 golf courses most of which have been designed with world-famous championship layouts, and regularly attracts international pro golfers for competition along wth those also looking for competition level courses for off season practice.
